Student care teacher showed nude photos of colleague to other colleagues

SINGAPORE: While she was working as a student care teacher providing after-school care for students, a woman showed nude photos of her colleague to other colleagues.
She also uploaded a video containing the photos to a Telegram group chat to help her friend take revenge on the victim.
The 22-year-old Singaporean woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday (Aug 20) to two counts of distributing intimate photos or videos.
She cannot be named as it may lead to the identification of the victim, who is protected by a gag order.
The court heard that the accused was 21 when she worked as a student care teacher. 
Some schools work with student care centres which hire such teachers to provide after-school care for students.
The victim, also 21 at the time, was a colleague of the accused. They were formerly friends but had become estranged.
The accused was friends with the victim’s ex-boyfriend, who had kept nude photos of the victim without her consent.
Sometime before December 2023, the victim’s ex-boyfriend sent the accused a screen recording of his Telegram chat with the victim which captured some of the victim’s nude photos.
The victim’s face and private parts were visible in the photos seen in the recording.
The accused was chatting with three other colleagues at their workplace sometime in December 2023 when she showed them the video.
She knew this would humiliate the victim, who was recognised by the other colleagues.
That same month, a 23-year-old male friend of the accused fell out with the victim.
He was in a group chat with the accused and three other people, and asked the group if they had any material that would damage the victim’s reputation.
He wanted to take revenge against the victim by disseminating such material on TikTok.
In response, the accused sent the video with the victim’s nude photos to the group chat.
The male friend did not ultimately disseminate it on TikTok.
The victim’s husband lodged a police report on her behalf in March, saying the accused had disseminated nude images of the victim.
The judge called for a report to assess the woman’s suitability for probation and adjourned sentencing.
For distributing intimate photos or videos, offenders can be jailed for up to five years, fined, caned, or given any combination of these punishments.
Women cannot be caned.
